Established career

Established career means someone who is, allowing for career breaks, more than 10 years from the start of their first employment in engineering or technology; the 10 years includes any advanced studies/research (e.g., Master’s degree, PhD, Engineering Doctorate, etc).

Faraday Medal

Scientific/Industrial

Awarded to an individual for notable scientific/industrial achievement in any field, the advancement of engineering/technology or lifetime achievement in science, engineering or technology.

Mountbatten Medal

Electronics or IT

Awarded to an individual who has made a significant contribution, to the promotion of electronics or information technology and their application.

Mensforth Manufacturing Medal

Manufacturing

Awarded to an individual for major and distinguished contributions in the manufacturing sector.

J J Thomson Medal For Electronics

Electronics

Awarded to an individual for major and distinguished contributions in electronics.

Achievement Medals

All areas of engineering and technology

Up to five medals are awarded to individuals who have made an impact in any sector of engineering and technology.

Early career

Early career means someone who is, allowing for career breaks, within 10 years of the start of their first employment in engineering or technology; the 10 years includes any advanced studies/research (e.g., Master’s degree, PhD, Engineering Doctorate, etc).

Mike Sargeant Medal

Awarded to an early career individual for significant achievement in their career of three years or more.

Winner will also receive £500.

Sir Henry Royce Medal

Awarded to an outstanding early career individual who has excelled in the workplace between 2022 and 2025. 

Winner will also receive £250.

Volunteer

IET Volunteer Medal

An Achievement Medal that recognises the important work that volunteers do for the IET.

Paul Fletcher Medal

Awarded to a member of the IET who is an IET volunteer, for outstanding achievement in contributing to the activities of the IET.

Winner will also receive £250.
